Judea Weekly eNews for April 18 - Easter

Judea Weekly eNews for April 18 - Easter

Dear Friends,

Holy Week continues as we contemplate Maundy Thursday TONIGHT, where we symbolically experience Jesus' last passover meal with disciples and other characters at 7:30 pm in the Meeting House.  To punctuate the readings, special musical reflections will be offered by Mary Costanza and Jesse Ofgang.  The sanctuary is progressively darkened during this so that as the service ends, we all depart in silence.  We hope you will take this opportunity to meet Jesus in your heart.

And then... Hallelujah, it's Easter Sunday, a celebration of New Life with a brass trio, an participative postlude of the Hallelujah Chorus, spring blooms, and an Easter Egg Hunt for the Sunday Schoolers, hosted by our Youth Group during the service!  (Adult supervision of the Egg Hunt will be provided by our Christian Education Team.)  Sunday worship is at 10 am but there is also a community Sunrise Service at 6 am on New Preston Hill, led by Rev. Linda Williams of Salem Covenant Church.  Some folks attend both!  The announcements below will give you more information about all that.  What better time to invite a friend or extended family to church?

There are also a couple of new announcements, too, so scroll down a bit and check them out. The April Judea Journal supplement is also available for you to download.  It includes Pastor Robyn's first full article as our new pastor.

Have a wonderfilled week ahead and I hope to see you in church!

Maundy Thursday - April 18 at 7:30 pm

Our Maundy Thursday worship begins at 7:30pm, and is a service of communion and tennebrae which includes readings from the various personal perspectives of Jesus' followers as Holy Week unfolds.  During this, the sanctuary is progressively darkened and we leave in silence.  Many members find this the most moving worship of the church calendar.

  • 10:00 am Traditional Easter Celebration in the Meeting House
                       and

We will celebrate Easter Sunday by closing the service with a rousing rendition of the Hallelujah Chorus! All members of the congregation are welcome to join us! Beginning this Sunday, April 7th copies of the music will be available in the back of the church for anyone to pick up ahead of time. Copies will also be available on Easter Sunday morning. Legislators Talk About Importance of Faith

By Tiffany Vail

At a first-of-its-kind event on Friday, more than 30 people from 11 Connecticut Conference churches came to the Legislative Office Building to meet with three legislators who are members of CTUCC churches. They talked about issues ranging from environmental protection to gambling to economic justice and reproductive rights.

Conference Minister the Rev. Kent Siladi opened up the gathering by talking about the intersection of faith and politics.

“We believe that Christianity cannot be just confined to the private, personal part of life. In our tradition in the United Church of Christ we believe that faith is expressed in the public square,” he said “We believe that once a person embraces a faith, it has implications for the believer, the community and the pursuit of the common good.”  Read More...

Eating does not have a season. Won’t you please pick up a few extra items for the cart so that those who need it can have some nutritious food or personal care items they might not be able to buy this month.  Remember, the money starts running thin towards the end of the month – before it finally runs out in that last week, or before.  Donations are especially needed NOW.  A list of items is available in the cart or online.

Our donations are currently being directed to the New Milford Food Bank.

Bring your donations to church on Sunday or they may be placed in the Parish House shopping cart any time the building is open (Monday through Friday, 9-5 pm, and Sunday mornings)
