Holy Week Worship Services

Come join us for Pastor Cheryl Anderson's last Holy Week
here at First Congregational Church.

She will lead the Easter Sunrise Service on New Preston Hill
and the traditional services in the Meeting House.

Maundy Thursday, March 29 at 7:30 pm
This very special contemplative evening service includes dramatic readings in which we meet different characters that surrounded Jesus during his final days in human life.  These six people who had front row seats to the events of Holy Week are: Mary, a friend of Jesus, Simon Peter, Judas, a Roman soldier, Mary, the mother of Jesus, and Salome.  The story you will hear is the story of a journey through the dark night of the soul for Jesus and for each one of these people you will meet on Thursday evening.

This is a service of tenebrae.  Tenebrae is a Latin word meaning “shadows”.  The sanctuary is progressively darkened as the candles are extinguished.  We leave the sanctuary in silence following the service

Maundy comes from the Latin for “command.”  It refers to the “new commandments” that Jesus gave his disciples at the last supper: to love one another, and to remember him by sharing the bread and cup of communion.

Easter Sunrise Service, April 1 at 6:35 on New Preston Hill.
Refreshments will follow.

Traditional Easter Service at 10 am in the Meeting House.
An egg hunt and other activities will be held for the children during the service with help from our Christian Education team and members of our Youth Group.
Light refreshments, hosted by our Deacons, will follow in the church hall.
